Another good way on promoting to our kids how to take care of their toys is taking part of their "toy maintenance" like joining them when they are wiping their toys wit when it gathered dust. We should make them feel that they could have fun when they maintain their toys.

To sum it up, we must remember that we do not just leave toys to our kids for them to play with until they get broken then we would but them new one. Let us play with our kids and be a part of their lives. Toddler toys are perfect for the development of our children. These toys allow them to explore and help aid in their development. There are so many different types of toys that are perfect for your growing toddler. The toys will introduce the fun of play and learning at the same time. I am not an expert in the field of toys for toddlers. I am just a work from home mom who takes my role as a parent very seriously. As we all should. It is an honor and a privilege to have children. So everything matters and is equally important.

I have done the proper research and asked our pediatrician about the "right" toddler toys. I guess there is no right toy exactly. You could say the best toys that will help them to develop. It really is just a matter of my opinion and advice that I would like to share with all of you. These are only suggestions for you to try with your toddler. Always feel free to do your own research. You should always investigate a toy in my opinion, especially for expensive toy purchases. I have some great tips that I like to do before I buy any toddler toys for my son. It's a shame to spend a large amount of money on a toy, only to find out it's not worth the money you spent.

Tips to consider before you purchase Toddler Toys

Research the toy.

You can go online and Google any toy that you may be interested in. You can find ratings and reviews about the product. It is actually quite surprising to read what other parents may have written about the toy. They rate and review the toy after they have purchased it and their toddler played with it. You can find out whether or not it would make a good purchase. Read all the reviews. You will find good and bad about any item but, it still may give you an idea. I researched a toy before I purchased it. Ignoring the reviews, I bought it anyway and the reviews were dead on and I ended up regretting the purchase. So be wise and use the resources available to you.

The Mom Test

What I mean by this is actually go to the store and look at the toy. Feel it, play with it examine it closely. Ask yourself questions about the toy:

• How is the toy made? Is it cheaply made? Is it sturdy and strong?


• Will it break easily?


• What are the age recommendations?


• Is it worth the price?


• Are the parts too small?


• How long are they going to play with it before they outgrow it?

You would be amazed at how you can see toddler toys online and then when you see them in the store they look completely different. This has happened to me more times than I can count. So inspect carefully.

The Toddler Test

Allow your child to look at the toy and see if they even like it. I am guilty of this one. I was famous for buying toys that I thought were so cute and wanted my toddler to enjoy. He didn't even like them or play with them. It sometimes ended up being a waste. Well as you can read from my site, I do not like to waste money. So see if your toddler will even play with the toy in question. Again, you may be pleasantly surprised either way.

Try and get the Best Price

When it comes to toddler toys, I am all about saving money. Well I like to save money in general. You have got to shop around. When you shop online you sometimes get a much better price than in the actual store. You should watch your shipping prices though. Sometimes that can be the breaking factor. You think you are saving money but you come out paying more with the shipping. So be careful. Don't forget about wonderful E-bay and Craigslist. Two great places to find toys at reasonable low prices.

Be sure to go online to different stores and compare prices. Two and three dollars can make a difference when you add it all up. It is important so just take your time and you'll get a great deal. I am the queen of finding bargains and my hubby loves me for it! LOL

If you purchase an expensive toy, make sure your toddler will get the proper use out of it.

The reason for this is that they will outgrow them before you know it. My three year old will refer to some of his old toddler toys as "baby toys". It is so cute but he is right. Shop within reason and think about how long they are going to actually play with the toy. It really doesn't make sense to purchase a $100 toy for 6 months of play. Research a less expensive toy and save the rest of your money. Trust me the cost is not the issue, toddlers will play with boxes and have a blast. You understand where I am going with this. Just decide if the price is worth it and if you are going to get the use out of the toy for the price.

I bet you never thought about all of these factors when considering toddler toys? It's amazing isn't it? When I finally was blessed to become a Mom my perspective on everything changed. I became so picky and concerned about everything pertaining to my son. We want the best for our children. I have also come to the realization that it all matters to me. The Do-it-yourself industry is super popular right now. From home improvements to self-improvement projects, there are do it yourself plans for just about anything. This year take advantage of the explosion in this industry and use do it yourself plans to build you child, grandchild, niece or nephew their very own activity tables. When bought in stores these tables can cost you hundreds of dollars, however, if you make it yourself using toy wooden train table plans, you'll only spend about $100 to $150.

What You Will Need

To start with you will need toy wooden train table plans. These plans will provide you with a materials and tool list, instructions for your project and dimensions for your table. You can find these plans online or at local hobby stores.

When you pick up your activity plans you will then need to go to your local home improvement store or lumber yard to pick up your supplies. You will need lumber, screws, sandpaper, kid friendly paint, wood dowels and wood glue. The lumber dimensions will be detailed on your plans. You can get help selecting the tools and supplies that you need from your project by asking a clerk at your lumber yard or home improvement store.

Building Your Toy Train Table

After you have picked up your materials you will want to set up your work area. You will want to organize your materials so they are easy to find when you need them. Next you will want to lay out your lumber and cut out your pieces. To keep the pieces straight in your mind use a pencil to write down what part they are, such as table top, leg or side rail.

Once all of your pieces have been cut you can assemble the pieces using screws, washers, wood dowels and wood glue. As you glue and assemble your pieces, use wood clamps to hold your pieces tightly together until the glue sets. Once assembled allow your table to remained clamped together for about a day.

The next day you can remove the clamps and sand down your table. You will most likely need to work with both electric sanders and hand sanding tools. You can use the electric sander on the large flat surfaces, however, you will need to hand sand the nooks and crannies and rounded surfaces (if there are any) on your table. Once sanded you can either stain the table or prime and paint it. Make sure you use kid friendly/safe paints and finishing products. Allow the table to dry completely for about a day before playing on the table.

Another idea for summer activities is going to the local state park. The beaches, trails, camping and boating would definitely keep the kids busy for quite some time. Most parks let them bring their bikes as well.

There are other things you can do around your own house to entertain the kids during the summer. They can play sports outside, but should drink a lot of water. You could go hiking in the woods behind your house, or a friend's house. Summer afternoons are a great time to take a walk in your neighborhood, and the kids can jump through other people's sprinklers, but only those that come out to the sidewalk. It might not be such a good idea to let them run through all the lawns.

If it is a rainy day, but muggy, you could let the kids dance in the rain, even in their bathing suits. You might want to stay in side and be air conditioned and watch movie together, or even better, go to a movie together. The summer season is one of the biggest times of the year that blockbuster movies are released.

When it comes to summer vacation, one thing is for sure, parents always get worried about keeping their kids occupied and kids just want to have fun. This toy has some neat features that are helpful for playing. It has loops on the reigns to put the dolls hands into. And the saddle has stirrups for putting in the feet so it really helps to keep the doll on the horse while playing. It's also a nice big horse. It makes sounds (galloping & whinnying), which I didn't realize, but it ended up being okay because the volume is at a nice level and it only makes sounds if you push the button. It feels like there are some kind of supports in the legs and this is helpful in making the horse stand upright. This was a great Christmas present and my girls play with it often.

My daughter loves this toy. It rattles, it's good for teething and it's not made with toxic paint. We always make sure that we have this toy with us when we go out.

Since the holidays are just around the corner, a new review of popular toys is overdue. However, after surveying the current trends in the industry, this reviewer had to take a step back and reconsider. My epiphany: modern toys are mostly a collection of blinking lights and obnoxious noises! How did it come to this?

So instead of providing another holiday review of what's hot in the toy world, an re-introduction to traditional (read: non-blinking) toys is much more useful. Traditional toys have a lot of benefits over the trendy toys, not the least of which is affordability. But there are many more reasons why parents should rethink the value of traditional educational toys.

First, remember that classic toys are made from natural sources, so toxicity is not an issue. We all know how the recent reports about Chinese toys and their shocking lead content levels. Never worry about this again with classic toys made from wood or natural fiber.

Traditional toys are also simpler, so they are less likely to break. Nor do they need a constant supply of batteries. Nor do they drive parents nuts with repetitive and annoying sound effects. Have you ever seen a parent take back a wooden block because it fell apart within a week? Probably not.

Another benefit of classic toys is that they encourage physical activity and group activity. Kids like to share, and they like to build things. This will not change season to season, and traditional toys - like jump rope and building blocks - will continue to draw the kids outdoors to play. Compare this to video games, which basically promote couch-potatoes-in-training.

Many will be shocked to learn that traditional toys actually have a better chance of being played with by kids. Sure, that plastic noise machine will take a quarter of a million years to degrade in sunlight (and will never biodegrade in a landfill), but only the first few hours out of the box will that toy be warmed by actual human hands. Children tire of fad toys because they are promoted with meaningless hype, not enduring values.

Traditional toys last longer because of something ephemeral but nonetheless crucial for child development: imagination. These toys reflect back a child's curiosity about the world, and grow with the child's understanding, skill level, and responsibility. An obvious example is blocks, which change from incidental chew-toys to simple building toys to complex lessons in physics and load capacity within a six year span. These toys are often handed down to new parents in the community, so it is not uncommon for wooden blocks to stay in the family for several generations.

Finally, because classic toys are imagination-centric, rather than gimmicky, they are also socially flexible. This means that the toys can be used in a variety of social settings. Children can learn how to share, work together, and build off one another's ideas. This is a crucial part of child development that modern electronic toys simply cannot do.

In the final analysis, modern toys are built to entertain and distract children, while more traditional toys are built to engage a child's imagination and help them socialize, while building real skills of dexterity and patience.

My boyfriend is a big Holy Grail fan, and the rabbit scene is one of his favorites. I bought this as an extra Christmas gift just for fun. He loves it and has it in his office. I got this for a grandchild and it's just too cute.The pieces are just the right size for little hands and too big to swallow although you'll want to watch that the child doesn't put the string around their neck.

Most 8-12 week old puppies won't make it through the night without at least one potty trip. This should be as uneventful as possible. Just let your puppy potty and then put her right back in the crate, with no treats or playtime.

During the day, most puppies can be crated for about an hour for every month they are old. You may need to enlist the help of a friend, neighbor, or dog walker to make sure your puppy gets out often enough if you work outside of the home. Physical control comes in leaps, not steps. You'll just notice one day that your puppy can wait until after breakfast to go out that first time, or suddenly can wake up from a nap and not have to pee immediately. By the time they're seven or eight months old, most dogs can be pretty much housetrained, which means that except in the case of illness or extreme disruption of their normal schedules, they don't have accidents. You can prevent your puppy from learning to "hold it" by taking him out too frequently. After he's 12 weeks old, try to stick to scheduled potty times, and crate him or tether him to you in between scheduled trips to prevent mistakes.

Weaning Off the Extra Trips

After seven months, most dogs will be eating twice a day, and will need to eliminate three to five times a day. If you've been using your "Go out" phrase for a while, you should notice some response from your dog - getting excited, running to the door, etc. when you ask.

Experiment with your schedule as your dog gets the idea of holding it and asking to go out. If someone is around to supervise, skip the midmorning and mid afternoon potty breaks, and see if your dog can get by on three or four potty trips per day.

Toy breeds can take longer to get physical control, and therefore to house-break. It takes patience and careful supervision to prevent accidents (which with toy dogs are easy to miss until the evidence is found), but it can be done. You may have to use some creativity, including the possibility of some indoor alternatives.

A lot of people who collect toy fire trucks do so because the novelty just never wears off. They just never get sick of them. Traditionally, the older we get, the bigger our toys get but for some of us that is just not the case. For some of us, the collection started back in our childhood and will more than likely continue on through the rest of our lives.

This is a beautiful toy w/quality construction. However, it is a toddler toy. My toddler, who is a very coordinated and efficient walker can never manage the right angle to activate the "flapping" feature on this toy. It's becoming a source of great frustration to him because he knows from my demonstrations what it is capable of, but is unable to accomplish it himself. I think by the time he's old enough to get the right angle consistently, the novelty of pushing toys will have worn off.

This is a beautifully made, old fashioned looking toy ... unfortunately, it's just not that easy to play with; as another reviewer noted, the wheels are very stiff, and it doesn't push easily. This is a very fundamental question: when do you say about a child that she is a genius?

What is genius?

All children are born geniuses. Often we observe a young child, and admire the fact that they learn at the "speed of light".

"Wow! This child is smart" - we say. "She is like a sponge. Everything she hears she repeats". The speed by which children learn is amazing. Their uncanny ability to repeat what they heard is amazing. It is also amazing to me how young children are able to use new information they have learned immediately in their daily life.

In school, in Biology, I have learned that intelligence is determined by the ability to use the information an entity has learned in everyday life. This goes for animals, as well as people.

If we use this as a measure, then - again - children are geniuses.

My neighbor, while watching a little toddler playing, said to me jokingly: "How come all these smart - genius - little children turn into such dumb adults?" It is easy to notice that the speed by which we learn diminishes over the years, and as we grow up, we don't seem to be that amazingly smart.

So it is natural for children to be geniuses. They learn fast, they use what they have learned immediately.

What other traits do they have that makes them geniuses?

Curiosity. If you observe a child while they are playing, you will notice that they are very curious. They WANT to learn. They are moving endlessly, looking for something new to learn.

A child plays with a toy only as long as she is learning something new. As soon as the child feels that she has squeezed the last bit of learning out of it, she will toss it aside and start looking for something new to learn.

Sometimes we think that a child's attention span is short, because they don't stick with one toy or one subject for long. This is totally wrong. It is not their attention span that is short. It is the time they need to learn about something new. The child learns at such a speed, that she doesn't need much time to learn all she can about one subject. Then she moves to a new subject.

What else - a very important component of genius do we see in children? It may be the MOST important one: CREATIVITY.

I have recently observed my little niece trying to reach the kitchen counter. Her mother was preparing food at the counter, and she wanted to see what's going on. She looked around, found a stool, moved it to the counter, and stepped on it.

Is that not genius?

It is creativity and problem solving! Creativity is when a child comes up with a new solution, a new idea, a new creation. There is no question, children are very creative. Even though the degree of creativity varies from child to child, in general we much say - children are very creative.

I was greatly disappointed when my granddaughter opened the jar. 90% of its contents is shredded paper. There were only 10 sheets of paper, a few feathers, pipe cleaners, pompoms, popsicle sticks, and lots of sequins. There should be a lits of the items contained in the jar. I cannot understand how people could have given this item five stars. I would give it two (2).

We gave these to our 22 month old son for Christmas and he did'nt want to stop playing with these crayons. He likes stacking them up 'till they fall down - and they don't break. We enjoy counting the crayons together and naming each of the colors. They're very easy and fun to hold either with your finger inside the crayon or in the palm of your hand. For the lighter colored crayons you have to press down somewhat hard to actually see the color on the paper. I like that they don't roll off the table!

My 20 month old twins love these! We bought a smaller set when they were about 1. They could use them then, but tended to bite the ends off. I would wait till the child was past the eating everything stage. Now my girls have a great time with the crayons. They like to stack them up as much as they like to color with them. I would definately recommend them.

It's certainly the case that for some dogs and particular breeds learn to fetch allot faster than other breeds. If you wan to teach any dog to fetch then follow these steps and it shouldn't be a problem.

Tip 1 - Stage 1

• Make sure you use something that your dog has familiarity with and enjoys. I taught my first dog to fetch by using his favorite furry teddy (with a squeak). I used this because my dog already enjoyed playing with this toy so it made the training process easier right from the start.
• The reason that I used a squeaky toy was it instantly focused his attention when I threw it.
• Although ropes and tug toys maybe one of your dog's favorite toys -don't use it when training to fetch as your dog is more accustomed to tug-of-war, and will want to play this with you instead of learning to fetch.

Tip 2 - Stage 2

• In this stage you need to place your dog on a leash.
• You need to use a relatively long leash, something about 10 foot or slightly longer is perfect. The reason behind using a leash is that you don't want to be chasing after your dog and trying to retrieve him.
• The longer the leash the better as it will enable your dog to run to fetch his toy but with you still having an element of control.

Tip 3 - Stage 3

• I always use treats when I am training any dog to fetch - this keep and holds their attention.
• This stage is possibly the most difficult as you want to keep your dog your dog's attention on the toy, the treats and on you.
• If you are starting the fetch training with a puppy - do the fetch training over a period of about a week - keep practicing this stage by trying to hold your puppies attention.
• When fetch training a puppy - make sure you end the training before he loses his attention - this will keep your puppy interested every time you restart the fetch training process.

Tip 4 - Stage 4 - Fetch

• Right here we go...

• Now you have your dog on a leash, a toy, your dog's undivided attention, and a treat - You are now ready to to start the fetch training process.
• Hold your dog/puppy quite tightly on the leash and keeping his attention - wave the toy in front of him and the throw it away - only a few feet - you want it to be in your dog's eye line.
• As you throw it say in a firm voice 'fetch' and let your dog run after the toy.
• When your dog has got the toy in his mouth gently draw the dog back in with your leash.
• When he is within reach, offer the treat and say 'give' and take the toy from your dog's mouth.
• Make sure you aren't pulling and tugging for the toy-this isn't a game and your dog needs to understand that.
• Now it's time to praise your dog - make a really big deal of it make your dog realize that you are thrilled. Repeat 'good dog' and pat and pet him.
• Continue to repeat stages 4 and 5 until you feel he is getting bored or losing his attention

If you repeat this over the course of a week - any dog even the most stubborn breed will learn to fetch.
